Résumé du colloque

The rabbit, a species which has proven especially useful in neuroendocrine and neuropharmacological investigations, has not enjoyed the same popularity in neurophysiological research. This is due in part to special difficulties encountered in fixing the rabbit's head into the stereotaxic apparatus. Conventional stereotaxic devices are constructed to position and secure the head in the sagittal axis with ear bars which are in the horizontal plane. Such procedures cannot be applied to the rabbit since in this species the external auditory meatuses are at an angle to this plane. A general solution to this problem has been to use two clamps which are positioned over the temporal processes of the zygomatic arches. In the presentation, the advantages and disadvantages of this and other innovations and modifications will be discussed together with a presentation of refinements we have made to effect secure stereotaxic placement of the rabbit's head for accurate positioning of deep electrodes.
