It is well known that exact analytical solutions of the equations of thin film optics are not, in general, possible. This is particularly true for absorbing films, for which both refractive index and absorption coefficient are complex. Various graphical and numerical methods suitable for specific cases have been proposed and used. We will describe a two-step method which has some advantages over the earlier methods. The results will be given to show that the method allows the computation of the optical constants of absorbing films will be presented.
