Résumé du colloque

In the past, the pattern of motion of the ankle and subtalar joints has been defined and described using invasive techniques. In vivo determinations of the 3-D orientation and location of the axis of rotation at these joints remain undefined at the present. The purpose of this study is to develop a mathematical model which will describe the pattern of motion occurring at these joints as well as to determine the relationship between an invasive and non-invasive data collection technique. These objectives are to be fulfilled using a stereophotographic system consisting of 4 Nikon FE cameras positioned to allow filming of the medial and lateral sides of the foot. The Direct Linear Transformation technique will be used to reconstruct kinematic data from the stereopairs into spatial data. Four mathematical models: circular motion, direction cosines, Euler transformations, and screw motion will be used to quantify and model the pattern of motion occurring at the two joints. This unique model could then be used to assess foot ailments, such as in sprains, as well as foot disorders, such as in paraplegics and spastics.
