Résumé du colloque

The Canadian Climate Impacts Program has achieved considerable success since its inception in 1984. The program focuses on research studies, contracted mostly to the university community, to assess the socio-economic consequences of climate warming expected over the next few decades due to increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases. Studies have now been completed, or are in progress on possible impacts of climate change on agriculture, fisheries, transportation, energy, recreation, forestry, and the water sector. The Canadian Climate Centre has the lead role in the Impacts Program and has provided almost all of the funding for impacts studies undertaken to date. Efforts are now underway, however, to encourage a more active role by other agencies, both federal and provincial, in further studies.
