Résumé du colloque

Diamond is a unique material with several very distinguishing features. Among these are the lowest thermal coefficient of expansion, the highest thermal conductivity, the highest band gap, the lowest dielectric constant, the highest dielectric strength, electron mobility greater than that of silicon, mechanically very hard and chemically inert. Since the announcement of a reproducible CVD synthesizing method of diamond thin films by the group in Japan, which utilized decomposition of hydrocarbon, several other methods have been proposed. I shall describe some of these methods, for example, hot filament CVD, microwave plasma CVD, rf and dc plasma CVD for diamond films and discuss the technology used in depositing diamond-like carbon films. Applications of diamond and diamond-like carbon films in infrared optics will be presented.
