Résumé du colloque

Although there is general agreement that diabetes mellitus is a hereditary disorder, there has been no demonstration of the specific gene defect. In the work to be described an insulin was isolated from single human diabetic and non-diabetic pancreas, an half of the diabetic insulins showed significantly lower biological activity than the non-diabetic insulins. As the insulins were chemically pure, the cause for this difference must lie in the insulin molecule itself, suggesting that in some cases diabetes mellitus is associated with a functionally abnormal insulin.
