Résumé du colloque

Progress in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) has gradually forced us to rethink what its role may be in our emergent society based upon information and knowledge. It‚s no longer a question of what it can do for us, but rather what can we do with it. ICT is useless unless it is appropriately integrated in a context of use as a functional asset capable of improving task outcomes and goal achievement. Among the innumerable contexts of use, which have been capable of integrating ICT in its activities, museology has looked towards ICT as a solution for some of their essential activities such as: collection, preservation, research, exhibition, education, and entertainment. The Cidade Velha project, presented and described in this paper is currently focused on taking cybermuseology to a new level by proposing a mash-up of current technology trends. Virtual 3d environments, Web 2.0 services and tools and Role Playing Games (RPG) with underlying informal education purposes, set the structure for a project which focuses of „bringing back to life‰ a historical location, situated in Cape Verde, and collaboratively building a digital collective memory with the participation of online communities and transdisciplinary team work.
