Induction of mutations in Drosophila by means of centrifugal force: preliminary report

Résumé du colloque

Yu and Dodson (in press) have demonstrated that centrifugal force (2000 to 25,000 g) will cause mutations in barley. Recently, we have applied the same technique to Drosophila. Flies withstood forces as high as 13,000 g and were fertile after forces as high as 10,000 g for 1 hour. Mutations observed in the progeny (F1 or F2) disturbances of sex ratio, distorted abdominal sclerites, dwarfism, and reduction of wings. Genetic analysis of these mutants is now in progress.
