Karyotypic studies of some entities of Solidago and of peripheric taxa

The karyotypes of 22 taxa attributed to the genus Solidago (Asterae, Compositae) or to neighbouring genera, representing 7 true Solidago and 15 peripheric entities have been worked out. The basic chromosome number of the genus is 9. Of the 22 taxa studied, three are hexaploid (2n = 54), one is tetraploid (2n = 36) and the remainder are diploid (2n = 18). The karyotypes are mostly symmetrical. Despite the external morphological variation, the karyotypes of all these taxa are, in general, similar. The date thus far indicates that the karyotypes of peripheric taxa show a fair degree of resemblance with those of the true Solidago investigated.
