Résumé de la communication

Given the percentage of Canadians that report having considered a move to the United States, relatively few actually leave. A survey conducted in November 2007 by the firm Leger Marketing for the Association for Canadian Studies, revealed that some 17% of Canadians said that they had considered moving to the United States, some 67% of Canadians said that they never considered moving to the United States and some 29% of Canadians said they would like to live in the United States for part of the year. The survey further revealed that some one in four Canadians would favor eliminating the border with the United States. Following a review of recent trends in the numbers of Canadians moving to the United States, we will provide a demographic profile of those individuals most to consider such a move and also look at how such individuals view the United States. We will also explore travel patterns of Canadians to the United States and assess the views of frequent visitors about conditions south of the border. Our analysis in largely based on survey data collected by the polling firm Leger Marketing ove the period 2007-2009. It is contended that making broad generalizations about the motivation for moving and around Canadians views of the United States the complex perception of the population when it comes to its neighbor.
