We have investigated the formation of nanogratings induced by femtosecond laser pulses on the surface of silica glass blocks, which are being translated perpendicularly to the laser propagation direction during the interaction. The nanograting spacing period can be varied from 160 to 340 nm in our experiments, depending on the scanning speed. However, at the same scanning speed, the period stays constant while changing the laser pulse energy. Intensity clamping is considered to be responsible for the constant spacing period.
