Résumé du colloque

In the previous work (Can. J. Chem. 41 - 1963) on the coordination complexes of group IV halides and dinitriles, it has been postulated for some of the compounds that the central element had a coordination number 5, or a coordination number 6 where this coordination 6 was reached through halide bridging. It was thought of interest to use a bidentate ligand where it is easy to determine the coordination of the two different elements. For this purpose ethyl cyanoacetate was used. For all the complexes, except BCl3 one, it was observed that the both cyano as well as carbonyl groups are involved in coordination as indicated by a marked increase in -C≡N stretching frequency and a negative shift in C=O frequency. Thus compounds, with six membered chelated ring, are expected to be formed. The analytical results indicate the composition 1:1 for all these compounds.
