Résumé du colloque

The mode of addition of CH2 (prepared from photolysis of CH2N2) to olefinic double bonds is found to depend on the pressure of inert gas (N2) present. At both high and low pressures of N2 the non-stereospecific addition product is found, whereas maximum stereospecificity is found at intermediate pressures. We interpret this to imply that at high pressures the addition product formed by electronically excited CH followed by geometrical isomerization of the "hot" molecule again results in a non-stereospecific product.
