Résumé du colloque

A summary will be presented on research work conducted as part of the climate research program concerning the use of MSS data, especially thermal infra-red, to analyze patterns of surface energy exchange for 1) urban areas (Montréal and Vancouver) and 2) sea ice in Northern Baffin Bay. 1) Satellite imagery from HCMM was analyzed for the two urban areas of Montréal and Vancouver. From this imagery regional metropolitan maps of day/night temperatures were constructed for a 900 km² area. With the satellite data, maps of non-radiative exchanges (sensible and latent energy) along with maps of surface cover (moisture availability and thermal inertia) are produced. 2) Both Landsat and NOAA-7 imagery were used in sea ice typing for the "North Water". The satellite imagery was calibrated with a series of low-level aircraft flights. Synoptic maps of surface temperature for Northern Baffin Bay are produced from which spatial patterns of ice thicknesses are derived.
