Résumé du colloque

Kindergarten children in ten schools were screened by sociometric measures and teacher ranking of popularity for low levels of social competence, particularly for isolation or rejection. By these means, one hundred and eleven children were screened to participate in the study. Assignment to experimental or control group was made randomly within each school. The experimental group attended a 30-minute weekly session with the school nurse in which Grade two models (selected for popularity) modeled such pro-social behaviours as sharing, giving praise, cooperating, leading activities. Each group (6) met at least sixteen times from January to June. The results indicated that most of the children in either group improved over the year, but children in the experimental group improved more in behaviours (via teacher report on the Achenbach Behavior Problem Checklist) and in number of positive nominations. Observations showed no differences.
