Résumé du colloque

This paper concerns with the western sector of the northern boundary of the State of Jammu and Kashmir in India with the Sinkiang region of China. In this region China has claimed over 5000 square miles of territory south of the border of Sinkiang. Pakistan has been in physical control of this region since 1948. After manouvering for a long time China and Pakistan signed an agreement on March 2, 1963, delimiting this boundary. India has protested the signing of such an agreement because she feels that Pakistan has no right to enter into an international agreement with respect to a territory which does not rightfully belong to her. An attempt has been made in this paper to examine the nature of this agreement and the maps attached to it. An attempt has also been made to analyse whether this agreement has solved the boundary problem in this region.
