Résumé du colloque

Since the ability of a very minute amount of DNase to enhance many times the DNA synthesis and rate of mitosis has been repeatedly demonstrated by several investigators, we studied the variations in the activities of DNase and RNase in liver mitochondria and high-speed supernatant fractions prepared from rats of different ages, beginning from infancy to senility, in order to know if any direct relationship can be found to exist between the activities of these enzymes and the DNA, RNA contents in liver cells at any phase of the life cycle of the animal. Our results indicate that in young age these enzymes might be involved either directly or indirectly in DNA and RNA synthesis while in old age their functions appear to be primarily confined to the degradation of DNA and RNA in dead cells.
