The Geologist and Archaeology

FF

Membre a labase

F. Fitz Osborne

Résumé du colloque

During his fieldwork the geologist should observe and record features of archaeological interest such as concentrations of artifacts, rock pictures and petroglyphs. He may be of service to the archaeologist by determining the provenance or source of rocks used in artifacts thus enabling trade routes or travel routes to be ascertained. On the other hand the archaeologist can assist the geologist by the dating of some topographic features by the age of the culture from artifacts or by C14 determinations. Such information is particularly useful in determining the rates of some secular processes.
