Résumé du colloque

Using a chronological framework and a narrative structure, this summary paper, from the official Redemptorist research project based on archival documents in the United States, Canada, Belgium and Italy, will describe the arrival, establishment and indigenization of the American, Austro-Hungarian and Belgian Redemptorists in Canada between 1834-1898. The Redemptorists, an exempt religious missionary congregation, were invited to Canada by the bishops in order to counter lay control, theological Jansenism, and lax clerical behavior, by promoting ultramontane centralization, Romanite devotions with Ligourian moral theology, and monastic clerical behavior.
