Résumé du colloque

Since the mid 1970’s the Rare and Endangered Plants Project at the Museum, under the leadership of George Argus, has provided the stimulus and direction for the production of a series of publications on the rare vascular plants of each province and territory. These collaborative efforts with botanists from across Canada provided the basic documentation of species based on political, jurisdictional boundaries. The publication Rare Vascular Plants in Canada - Our Natural Heritage, (Argus and Pryer, 1990) included information on over 1000 species of plants that are nationally significant because they are throughout their entire range in Canada. Over the last 10 years, Erich Haber has been actively involved directing the activities of the Plants Subcommittee of the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada. The subcommittee commissions the preparation of plant status reports for nationally rare species and recommends status designations for adoption by the committee at large. A recent initiative at the Museum has been the use of desktop computer mapping as a tool for taxonomic research, phytogeographic studies, and rare plant documentation.
