For the past two decades social scientists and medical critics have examined the breadth and depth of the medicalization of human problems. Medicalization tends to be of two types: of deviance and of "normal life events". We see different degrees of medicalization for different problems, from complete to partial medicalization, and, in specific cases, virtual demedicalization. In terms of categories, medicalization still seems to be increasing, even in the context of constraining social forces.
