My thesis is that Twardowski rejected Bolzano's "objectless presentations" for two main reasons: first, because he believed that it was absurd to talk about objectless presentations in the context of his distinction between the content and object of presentations and second, because objectless presentations fly in the face of Brentano's fundamental methodological assumptions. Yet, while Twardowski believed that he improved Brentano's position by making the distinction between the content and object of presentations, Twardowski may have in fact opened a "Brentanian closet" to reveal a "Bolzanian skeleton."
