A correlation of certain subtropical wet periods with retreating, rather than advancing, glaciers is evident. Evidence to support such a view includes: (1) radiocarbon dates and post Wisconsin climates in the Valley of Mexico: (2) cultural and climatic deterioration in the 15th Century; (3) the relict distribution of montain Mexican and ordilleran biotas which meet but do not integrate in the Southwest.
