Modern spectroscopic methods make it possible to determine the structure of most low molecular weight natural products relatively quickly. Frequently only milligram quantities of the compound are required. It is thus incumbent on the natural products chemist involved in structure determination to utilize this ability to address problems beyond that of structure elucidation.
