Ten rare tree and shrub species native to extreme southern Ontario were examined for various aspects of their population and reproductive biology. Experimental aspects of pollination and seedling establishment were conducted. From these studies, the breeding systems, pollinator mechanisms, and natural establishment were elucidated. This information is basic to the wise management of natural areas and for recommendations to land managers to increase effective, available habitat and thereby reduce the jeopardy of individual species and biotic communities.
