The role of the Canadian Museum of Nature in documenting plants at risk in Canada

Since the mid 1970’s the Rare and Endangered Plants Project at the Museum, under the leadership of George Argus, has provided the stimulus and direction for the production of a series of publications on the rare vascular plants of each province and territory. These collaborative efforts with botanists from across Canada provided the basic documentation of species based on political, jurisdictional boundaries. The publication Rare Vascular Plants in Canada - Our Natural Heritage, (Argus and Pryer, 1990) included information on over 1000 species of plants that are nationally significant because they are throughout their entire range in Canada.
