Considerable attention has recently focused upon the development of effective parenting programs for normal and high risk parents. In particular, techniques and methods designed to help parents acquire those parenting skills viewed as necessary for the development of physically, psychologically and emotionally healthy young children have been developed. Longitudinal research data concerning the effects of various early intervention programs have begun to appear in the educational and psychological literature.
