Since very little work has been done on phosphorous metabolism in Tribolium confusum Duval, except that of Chaudhary and Lemonde on total phosphorous and acid-soluble phosphorous, a more detailed investigation on phosphorous metabolism particularly with respect to ATP contents and ATPase activities at the different stages of development and growth of the insect was undertaken. The ATP content, as expected varies inversely to the ATPase activity at all stages of growth and development of the insect. The significance of ATP content and ATPase activity in regulating all the energy requiring synthetic processes of life in Tribolium confusum will be discussed.
