The study will examine the environmental implications of the Transmigration Programme in Indonesia. The program is considered to be the world's largest voluntary assisted migration project. Since 1905 millions of people have been moved from overpopulated areas in the islands of Java, Madura, Bali, and Lombok to new settlements in the less densely populated Outer islands.
