Presently seven genera are recognized in the family Salmonidae. This presentation clarifies the status of the genus Cristivomer. The genus Cristivomer is separated from Salvelinus because of the shape of the supraethmoid, supraoxilla, subopercle, vomer, lingual plate, and caudal fin, and also the high number of pyloric caeca, and breeding behaviour of the former. It seems that the genus Chistivomer is more generalized than Salvelinus.
