Online Public Participation Geographic Information System (PPGIS) is an emerging tool for enabling online participatory planning due to its powerful spatial data handling capabilities. Recent efforts in PPGIS concentrate primarily on making the tools available and accessible to the general public without paying much attention to addressing the communication and discussion needs of the spatially-related discussion environment. This research highlighted the significance of communication needs in PPGIS research.
