From this work, it seems that iron is not required as a separate constituent present in salt mixture. In fact, the larval growth is similar in both the case of insects fed on a diet containing iron salt and lacking in it. But from the analysis of various materials used in the synthetic diet, it appears that perhaps traces of iron present in these materials are sufficient to support growth and development of this insect at different stages.
