In the past, the pattern of motion of the ankle and subtalar joints has been defined and described using invasive techniques. In vivo determinations of the 3-D orientation and location of the axis of rotation at these joints remain undefined at the present. The purpose of this study is to develop a mathematical model which will describe the pattern of motion occurring at these joints as well as to determine the relationship between an invasive and non-invasive data collection technique.
