Coordination compounds between mercuric Thiocyanate and mercuric cyanide as ligands and the group (IV) halides as Lewis acids have been prepared and their infrared spectra (4000-200 cm^-1) examined. Two types of compounds, MX4.L-L and MX4.2L-L where M = Ti,Sn; X = Cl, Br and L-L2 = Hg(SCN)2 or Hg(CN)2 were characterised. On the basis of infrared spectral results possible coordination through the thiocyana and cyano groups will be discussed.
