A numerical simulation model of hillslope development and soil loss is presented. The model is based on the substitution of a set of soil transport laws into a statement of soil mass conservation. Careful field measurement of overland flow transport during rainstorm provides a data-base from which an hydraulic soil transport law is determined. Long term observations of near-surface soil displacement are used to generate an equation describing soil creep. The equations are solved relative to boundary conditions at the slope toe and crest, determined from the geomorphic history of drainage development and tree-ring analysis.
