We analyzed the capacity of silver halide emulsion for forming continuous profile microlenses starting from a binary mask. The fabrication method involves the recording of the reduced image of a binary mask on the emulsion by means of a photographic objective. Smoothing of the transmittance binary profile of the mask is achieved in a first case for the modulation transfer function of the emulsion. In a second case, smoothing is obtained by means of a defocus deliberately introduced during the photographic process.
