The effectiveness of Pd alone and in combination with Mg as matrix modifier for Pb determinations (in solution and soil slurries) using platform atomization has been studied. Organic material in soil aids the reduction of Pd and improves its effectiveness in delaying Pb vaporization. For slurries, 0.6 µg Pd alone was effective while for solutions 0.6 µg Pd + 1.0 µg Mg was needed.
