Detailed surficial mapping and systematic till sampling (2 km grid) can effectively be used to outline target zones for further exploration in northern New Brunswick's "gold belt". After the initial gold discoveries along the Rocky Brook-Millstream fault zone, it was evident that the absence of outcrop over most of the area would obstruct basic outcrop sample prospecting as a follow-up technique. However, seven gold occurrences were discovered in 1985 and 1986 by this technique along roads and streams.
